Wedding pictures

In 2003, the Canadian provinces of Ontario and British Columbia officially recognized that the civil recognition of marriage should apply as a matter of right to all couples regardless of gender. Jim and I took advantage of this long-awaited situation in the course of a trip I was already making to Vancouver.

Right now the U.S. seems to be moving in the direction of increased discrimination against same-gender couples, so we don't expect our marriage to have any concrete benefits there any time soon. However, since an increasing number of European countries recognize same-gender civil unions in varying degrees, being married could have practical benefits when we travel, for example if one of us needed to act for the other in an emergency such as a sudden illness or accident.
